
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Mexican consulate said criminals are trying to take advantage of the anxiety around the deadly mass shooting in Highland Park to run a scam on some Latino residents.
Scammers are said to be misrepresenting the consulate as well. Counsel general Reyna Torres told the Chicago Sun-Times that scammers have claimed to be attorneys and say they work with the Mexican consulate offering help or fees to obtain visas intended for victims of violent crimes.
They persist people in Highland Park and neighboring Highwood have gotten calls from people pitching the same thing.
