(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Morton Arboretum has announced plans to replace up to 300 trees that were destroyed when a tornado struck the western suburbs in June.
It’s part of a broader effort to plant 1,000 trees to mark the arboretum’s 100th anniversary in 2022.
Land owners in Woodridge, Naperville, Darien and unincorporated Downers Grove Township lost hundreds of trees when a tornado struck June 20.
Qualified property owners may apply for one free tree on a first-come, first-served basis. They’ll be notified if selected in late October, with trees delivered to communities for pick-up by landowners next spring.
