CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Next summer's NASCAR street race could take over a Chicago landmark for two weeks.

The race will run around Grant Park on July 1 and July 2 of 2023.

Crain's Chicago Business reported that the Chicago Park District has approved a permit for two weeks worth of race events.

The permit covers the period from June 22-July 5 next year. Revenue generating permits don't require park district board approval.

The park district said it is getting a cut of merchandise, concession, and ticket sales from the race.

While the race events have the potential to cut off access to the park at the beginning of summer, a district spokesperson told Crain's that it will work with NASCAR to maintain public access to the park.
