(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Animal control officials and rescues in Western Illinois are looking for donations and help find fosters for nearly 200 dogs removed from a hoarding situation over the weekend.

The dogs were found at a property in the town of Sherrard. They reportedly were dehydrated with matted hair, and some had mange and broken bones. One animal had to be euthanized.

TV station WHBF said the 59-year-old owner has been charged with three counts of aggravated animal cruelty. An out-of-state person alerted the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, the station reported.

An animal rescue in the Quad Cities is looking for foster families, and Mercer’s Animal Control is asking for donations of money and supplies.
