CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Blackhawks will soon be skating at the Friendly Confines, and they’ll be wearing new, special jerseys for the New Year’s Eve extravaganza.
The Hawks will host the St. Louis Blues at Wrigley Field on Dec. 31 for 16th edition of the NHL’s Winter Classic.
Wednesday, the league and their official outfitter, Fanatics, unveiled the Winter Classic uniforms for both the Blackhawks and the Blues.
The Hawks’ red sweater reflects the franchise’s Original Six roots as well as feature a unique twist. It has a classic lace-neck collar, an homage to the hockey’s early days, and is accented with a vintage cream color that the league says “captures the nostalgic spirit of the Original Six Era.”
Surrounding the Blackhawk chest logo are red stars from the Chicago flag. The numbers on the back of the jersey are also little different. They will have subtle pinstripes, a nod to Chicago baseball.

The visitors’ sweater strays even more from the norm. For the first time in franchise history, a Blue Note will not appear on the chest of a Blues jersey. In its place will be the yellow and blue wordmark “St. Louis” across the chest.
The white jersey’s font styling and numbers are models after an unworn Blues uniform prototype from 1966. A newly designed old-school Blue Note appears on the shoulder. Honoring the city of St. Louis, the jersey will have a fleur-de-lis designs on the inside back neck and hem loop labels.

Fans can purchase the new jerseys at all Fanatics network of sites, including on the NHL’s website. The Hawks Winter Classic jersey is already available at the Blackhawks Store on Michigan Avenue and the Madhouse Team Store at the United Center.
The Blues and Blackhawks will square off on New Year’s Eve at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on TNT.
