City of North Chicago

There's a happy ending to the story of a suburban mayor, a lost toolbox, and a kind deed.

North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham, Junior was driving to work on Tuesday morning when he saw a large toolbox fall from the back of a truck, and told WBBM, there was "probably about four thousand dollars worth of equipment in this box, and I said, 'these tools, that's his life,' you know?"

Mayor Rockingham tried to chase down the owner but had no luck so he and his team took to social media.

"And we were able to get it back to him. We live in North Chicago, he was out of Highwood, Illinois. He was able to get his tools back, he's an automotive mechanic, it was pretty nice."

"So many people have an opportunity to do nice things," the mayor said. "Maybe this is just an opportunity to pay it forward."
