(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’s a unique taste, born right here in Chicago. And now, a Northwest Side restaurant is putting its own, unique spin on it.
Pat Ray helped open Void in the Avondale neighborhood back in August, with a focus on Italian food and non-alcoholic beverages.
“It’s definitely a category that has exploded in recent years. However, I don’t see a lot of non-alcoholic shots.”
Wanting to change that, Ray and the restaurant’s beverage consultant got to work, and through a mix of wormwood, grapefruit, sugar and more "No-Lört” was born.
“It’s fun seeing people who have maybe never imbibed alcohol get to try something that tastes a lot like Marlört for the first time.”
WBBM’s Andy Dahn gave it a try, and can confirm it has the signature aftertaste.
“It really keeps going.”
And according to Ray, so does the drink’s popularity.

“I think word is really just getting out. I feel like other industry folk, bartenders and the like, picked up on it immediately. Now, more folks are joining in.”
Those wanting to join in will have to do so at Void, though Ray says it could wind up in stores someday.
The drink even has the approval of CH Distillery, the maker of Jeppson’s Malört.
