(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With all the rain we've had, you may be thinking about mowing your lawn but one northwest suburb is encouraging residents to wait.
Glenview's "No Mow 'Til Mother's Day" effort is designed to help pollinators, the village's natural resource manager Robyn Flakne said.
"Early in the season, there aren't a lot of flowering plants for the pollinators, so this kind of gives them a little burst of nutrition early on."
That burst comes from the dandelions, creeping Charlie and other flowering weeds that will grow in the grass. Interested residents can register on the village website and pick up a yard sign that helps explain the choice.
"Cut down on too many calls from their neighbors that might be wondering why they haven't mowed their lawn," said Flakne.
She said if they do get calls, the village will not enforce its code that grass height isn't higher than 8 inches until after Mother's Day. Flakne said they got the idea from Westmont and about 230 households have signed up so far.
