CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An off-duty Chicago police officer was involved in a shooting that took place in the city’s Washington Park neighborhood early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Officials said shots ran out on East 75th Street near South Michigan Avenue just before 2 a.m. That's when an off-duty officer was confronted by an armed individual, which police said led to “an exchange of gunfire.”

Investigators believe at least one other person fired in the officer's direction before they fled the scene. The off-duty officer was not struck.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.

COPA said it was responding to the shooting. Sunday’s shooting came on the heels of a similar attack that took place one week ago, when an off-duty officer was shot at in the South loop.
