(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Parents, preachers and others came to the Cook County Building on Thursday to offer prayers and proposals to help keep teenagers away from violence this summer.
Delece Williams, founder of the community group Kidz Korna, led a prayer circle in a conference room, calling for God's help in reaching out to young people.
Combining the spiritual with the secular, Michelle Williams, who says she's raising children and grandchildren, says communities need government and financial help, too.
Minister Andrea Hood, who also goes by the moniker Mother Hood, joined in the prayers for teenagers facing what some fear could be a violent summer.
Maria Moore said she's a concerned mother. She works for UPS and wants that company and others to hire young people and take them off the streets.
