OAK PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The driver of an SUV was injured in an overnight crash in Oak Park that left a historic bike shop heavily damaged.

Barnard's Schwinn Cyclery, located on the 6100 block of West North Avenue, was heavily damaged overnight after a vehicle crashed into the building, taking out a section of corner of the brick storefront shop and causing a support beam at the front of the building to come down.

Brick, concrete, and glass littered the sidewalk, as a dumpster was dropped off Friday morning to be used in the cleanup. Damaged bikes were visible behind the wreckage.

Owners Jeff and Greg Hajduk were waiting Friday on a structural evaluation.

WBBM: What do you think about this?

"Well, it's not unexpected; I mean, the way these cars are driving down here since they have repaved, everybody has been getting hit," one said.

"I feel sick about it," the other said.

WBBM: What do you know about the crash?

"Apparently he fell asleep at the wheel..." said one Hajduk brother.

"DUI, passed out, doesn't look good. We've spent all this time building a business..." the other added.

WBBM: There's quite a bit of damage to the bikes.

"They are not resellable," Hajduk joked.

The shop, according to the owners, is the oldest family-owned business in the village, in operation since 1911 and at this location since 1984.

The shop will need extensive structural repairs.
