(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With only one day to go before the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers take the field for Super Bowl LVIII, Illinois were reminded that they should make time to plan out a safe ride home from any Super Bowl festivities they plan on attending.

A recent survey found over 110 million people plan on attending or hosting a Super Bowl party on Sunday, and the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) said it expects more than 325 million gallons of beer to be consumed across the country — that’s over 2,600 pints.

That increased alcohol consumption has historically led to higher risks of injury, impaired driving and death, the ILCC said. When it comes to staying safe, though, the department shared some tips.

In addition to making a plan to get home safely, officials added that it’s wise to stay hydrated and to drink in moderation.

Don’t forget to eat — and if you need any ideas for some last-minute Super Bowl recipes, be sure to check out some great recipes from WBBM’s own Terry Bauer.
