(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Michigan City Indiana Police have released body cam video that shows a man falling on his head on concrete after he was Tased — a video release that sought to contradict the family’s suspicions that police used excessive force.

Near the beginning of the police bodycam video, officers ask Tahir Kelly what his name is. After first giving his wife’s last name, Kelly does give officers his name.

Then when an officer approaches Kelly and tells him to “turn around,” presumably to put handcuffs on him, Kelly runs.

A Taser is fired. Kelly falls headfirst into the concrete.

The bodycam video from Tuesday shows Kelly’s injured face and blood on the ground. Police say they recovered a gun at the scene.

Later — in a video the family released to reporters —  Kelly says, “They did this to me,” meaning police.

WBBM has asked the attorney for Kelly’s family to comment on the body cam video.
