CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — On Saturday, a parade held in Humboldt Park celebrated the rich cultural history of the Puerto Rican people.

The Puerto Rican People's Day Parade returned to Division Street in Humboldt Park, back in person for its 43rd year.

With a fully booked day of music and events, over 70 groups participated in the event, including car and motorcycle clubs.

The parade passes under two giant steel Puerto Rican flags, which lead to Paseo Boricua on either side of the Division Street stretch.

The steel flags are nearly 60 feet tall and were placed in Humboldt Park over 25 years ago. They are meant to honor the first wave of Puerto Rican migrants who worked at the steel mills when they first arrived in Chicago during the mid-1940s to 1960s.
