CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Metra commuters on the Northwest Side might need to reroute their commutes this week amid railroad work starting today.
Metra said midday trains on the Union Pacific Northwest Line may be delayed up to 30 minutes due to a tie replacement project between Barrington and Crystal Lake.
Union Pacific is replacing around 116,000 ties on the line. According to Metra, tie replacement is essential and must be done at regular intervals to maintain track speeds and service levels.
The tie work on the section between Barrington and Crystal Lake is expected to have the greatest impact on delays.
Metra said delays are expected between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and should end Friday.
