(WBBM NEWSRADIO) --A women's advocacy organization is sharing new findings and recommendations for those working to improve women's economic equity in Illinois.
The report is a result of the Women’s Economic Power Agenda Summit late last year, which brought together stakeholders working to improve economic equity for women.
"So this isn't meant to be exclusive or definitive, but really opening up a way for us to talk about this," explained Sharmili Majmudar with Women Employed.
She said the report lays out seven key areas of recommendation in removing barriers to economic success for women in Illinois including labor laws, language access, consumer protections, financial education, raising minimum wage, and improving public benefits.
"It's really about uplifting and connecting some of the work that is already happening."
One of the biggest recommendations has to do with care giving support to address both the financial and mental expense women face as caregivers.
"Things like passing a caregiver tax credit, expanding access to childcare subsidies, so continuing some of the movements that we've seen at the state level, passing paid family and medical leave, statewide, centralizing and making easier resources on child care," Majmudar said.
She hopes people interact with the report and think about how some of its findings relate to their own experiences.
"We're hoping to have some town hall, for example, to have these conversations and make sure that people in decision making roles are hearing what people need today, what women need today in order to feel secure and be able to move not only their own economic future but Illinois economic future forward."
