(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Kane County officials say a road rage incident has led to the arrest of two people, including a man who pleaded guilty last year to illegally mailing firearms to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

One of the two arrested Tuesday in Kane County was 37-year-old Steven Baxter, who is from St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.

The Kane County Sheriff’s office said Baxter and a woman from Rockford were involved in a road rage incident in Hampshire Township and that they pointed a gun at occupants of another vehicle.

Authorities say when they stopped Baxter and his companion on I-90 near U.S. 20, they found a loaded Glock handgun, a Kel-Tec pistol loaded with armor-piercing ammunition, plus a bullet-proof vest.

Baxter is charged with three weapons-related felony counts.

Reports indicate Baxter pleaded guilty last year to mailing firearms to the Virgin Islands.

The other occupant of the vehicle, 29-year-old Shamekwa N. Starnes, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in a vehicle without permit to carry, authorities said.
