(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With only days left before teachers and faculty at the Second City were set to go on strike, their union reached a tentative contract agreement at the famed Old Town comedy theater.
Training center faculty, facilitators, film school faculty and music directors have been negotiating for two years to get their first contract with the Second City.
The deal came after an 11-hour bargaining session with the Second City management.
Last week, the union threatened to go on strike after they rejected what officials said was management’s “last, best and final offer.”
Although the terms of the agreement were not immediately announced, some of the union's demands included better wages, a more manageable workload, and assurances that their contract will be honored if the company changes hands in the future.
The staffers are unionized through the Association of International Comedy Educations, which is part of the Illinois Federation of Teachers.
Unionized faculty at the Second City have previously said they’re paid notably less than their peers at other Chicago theaters.
The deal still needs to be ratified by the union.
