
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A portion of the inbound Stevenson Expressway has reopened after the conclusion an overnight shooting and crash investigation.
According to Illinois State Police, the incident happened around 1:20 a.m. in the inbound lanes near State Street. Troopers discovered a car had crashed into a wall and reportedly found it full of bullet holes.
Police believe the gunshots came from another vehicle.
The driver of the shot up vehicle suffered injuries from the crash, the ISP said.
As part of their investigation, police closed all lanes of the inbound Stevenson from the Chinatown feeder ramp to State Street. The shutdown lasted for more than four hours and significantly impacted the morning commute. The ramps from the Dan Ryan Expressway to the Stevenson are were closed.
The inquiry caused more than a four mile backup, beginning before California Avenue.
