CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois is kicking off a new campaign to urge consumers to "Shop Pride.”
The new program aims to drive customers to Illinois LGBTQ-owned businesses that were impacted by the pandemic.
"Consumers and larger corporations tend to only think about LGBTQ businesses during Pride Month, which is June. And so our campaign was really designed to help people realize and to understand that we should be supporting LGBTQ businesses all year round," Director Jerome Holston told WBBM Newsradio.
Holston said participating businesses will be offering deals and discounts through the end of August to kick off the campaign.
"From headshots and photos, candles, marketing and website development," Holston said.
More than a third of LGBTQ businesses reported big losses because of the pandemic. A complete list of the businesses participating can be found on the Chamber of Commerce's shop pride website.
