CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A small fire inside Chicago City Hall late this morning led to a response from the fire department.

According to Chicago Fire spokesman Larry Langford, the fire occurred in the Cook County side of the building, in a records room, on the third floor. Paper products caught on fire. The CFD said the fire was an accidental.

Langford said the CFD did not order the building to evacuate, but many people wound up vacating.

Two people were treated at the scene.

The fire was extinguished at around noon, and people returned inside by the 1 p.m. hour.

At the time of the fire, the Chicago City Council and Mayor Brandon Johnson were conducting a meeting. They heard fire alarms while inside on the floor and soon evacuated.
