CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A stolen truck led to short but dangerous ride along the lakefront Sunday morning.

Andrew Coffey was up early, and he saw a truck driving along the lakefront path, which is for walkers, runners, and bicyclists.

"The bikers were like 'What's up man? What are you doing," he said.

Coffey and others noticed the truck was going rather fast, and it hit a tree and then had a very difficult turnaround near the flyover in the shadow of Lakepoint Tower.

"I was taking a picture and I heard this big bang-boom!"

The driver did turn around. Coffey later found out the truck had been stolen.
Police told WBBM it happened near North Avenue Beach around 8:45 a.m., apparently during the Polar Plunge event.

The driver was taken into custody and no one was hurt.
