FOREST PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Classes were once again canceled Friday as the Proviso High School District 209 teachers strike continues.
District 209 and teacher union negotiators met with a federal mediator for nearly 10 hours Thursday but there was no agreement. There will not be any school next week because that’s spring break for the district. But even if there’s an agreement in the days ahead, students will have gone three weeks without classes.
Meanwhile, the district’s superintendent, James Henderson, is addressing an incident caught on video at a recent board meeting. He is seen using a couple of profanities and waving his arms at a school board member. He says the board member violated his personal space and pushed him with her body and that he was just acting instinctively.
Four of the seven board members have issued a statement in support of the superintendent.
