Two bereaved mothers in Indiana create new life through surrogacy

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Five years after two northern Indiana families were devastated by the deaths of their children, the families have bonded over new life.

It was in October 2018 when three of Brittany Ingle's children were killed -- hit by a vehicle as they walked to a school bus stop.

"We were completely broken and lost,” she tells WBBM Newsradio.

Several months later, Ingle reached out to comfort another woman -- Keri Fox, who lived not far away -- after Fox's 8-year-old son, Gideon, was hit in a crosswalk and died.

As time went by, Brittany Ingle says she and her husband decided they wanted another child.

"We were determined to do it again -- to bring some more love into this world and give it the best we can until I one day leave this earth and I can be with my kids again."

But Ingle says she learned she could not carry a baby to term.

That's when Keri Fox stepped forward and volunteered to become a gestational surrogate.

"With the connection we had with losing ours and then to give another one, it means a lot to me, being able to see their joy and their happiness and knowing that their family feels complete again,” Fox said.

Ingle explains why the child is named Psalm: On the morning he died, her 6-year-old son Mason was wearing a dog tag with a Psalm engraved on the back.

She remembers the medical examiner handing her the item.

"I flipped it over … Psalm 119:105, 'Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path,’” she said. “Psalms are blessing in the Bible, and this is such a blessing to come out of something so horrific."
