Suspect jailed after robbing Naperville dollar store at knifepoint: authorities

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Bond has been set at $1.5 million for a man accused of robbing a Naperville dollar store at knifepoint last week.

The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office and the Naperville Police Department said 44-year-old Melvin Lewis entered the Dollar Tree at 1550 North Route 59 about 9 a.m. Thursday and displayed a knife when his attempt to buy several items was declined.

After the cashier gave Lewis approximately $60 from the register, Lewis, who was wearing a surgical mask, fled the scene, authorities said.

He was taken into custody the following day at a nearby hotel where he had been living, police said.

Lewis is next expected in court Jan. 10.
