CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Murder charges have just been announced in a South Side triple fatal shooting that happened nearly a month ago. The 16- year- old accused will be tried as an adult.

Chief of the Bureau of Detectives Antoinette Ursitti said that the evidence pointed to a teen known to at least one of the victims and was even welcomed into the West Chatham home.

"The offender produced a handgun after an altercation, and shot all of the victims who were in the room," she said.

Four people were shot. Among those killed were two adults and a 14- year- old boy. A 16- year- old victim's condition is said now to be stable.

While the motive remains unclear, investigators said that some type of argument began in the home before the shooting. The U.S. Marshalls Great Lakes Region Fugitive Apprehension task force used information from the investigation to track the 16- year -old to a home in Hazel crest where he was taken into custody.

Charged now as an adult, he faces three counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

"To the family of the accused, I recognize the immense pain you must be experiencing," Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx said.

"Your lives too have been forever altered and changed by this tragedy of what should have been a young boy who acted as though a man and will suffer the consequences as an adult."
