Gaining STEAM For Their Future, Chicago Kids "Get Tech"
Some Chicago children spent one of their final days of summer soaking up valuable skills on Friday at South Side Sanctuary, at 47th and King Drive, at "STEAM FEST," learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
Cecelia Cuff is one of the organizers and told WBBM, "today is the first annual Steam Innovation Fest...we've got about 150 RSVPs of youth coming from all over the South and West Sides of Chicago, and we've got Chicago Public Schools here... we've got City Colleges of Chicago here talking about pathways through educational programs."
Kids were learning about A-I, aviation, and a lot more. Dale Morrison, a senior at the University of Illinois built a videogame and was quickly attracting inquisitive youngsters, saying "I've created a game that essentially teaches young kids...basic rudimentary coding concepts."
Sixteen-year-old Terrence Singletary was also both teaching and learning. He's a student at De LaSalle Institute, who assembled a 3-D printer and said, "all I want to is become a network engineer, or branch into cybersecurity and other roles...it's a lot of work! And I hope to get to it."
