CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADI0) -- Thousands of people attended a rally for abortion rights in Union Park on Chicago' s near-west side.
Among those we met in the crowd here in Union Park was Susan Buchanan from Oak Park.
She held a sign with just two words: F*** off.
"There's a lot of anger involved in this Supreme Court potential decision and rallies to me are often more for the people that are here just getting out their rage than for anything else, and so this sign is just an expression of my intense rage at this potential decision by the Supreme Court," Buchanan explained.
Speakers at the rally included Dr. Allison Cowett, who introduced herself as “a full-time abortion doctor,” to cheers from the crowd.
"These anti-abortion anti-woman zealots are too wrapped up in their world of privilege, misinformation, and religious fundamentalism to understand people who choose abortion," she said.
"People's lives are complex and abortion is a lifeline."
Paula Thornton Greear Planned Parenthood of Illinois said “every state that touches Illinois is set to either restrict of ban abortion.”
She said “Illinois is an oasis in a vast abortion desert.”
The event was one of many “Bans Off Our Bodies” protest rallies across the country.
In the Loop, nearly a thousand people marched through the streets for continued access to abortion and chanting "Hell no" to overturning Roe v. Wade and hundreds of people gathered in Millineum Park echoing the sentiment.
