(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Next week is Veterans Day, a time to thank military veterans for their service and to remind them to be on guard against veteran scams.

As we honor our veterans, it’s important to note that they are not immune to money and identity scams, like enticing fake offers for discounts on big ticket items while demanding advanced money transfers for pre-payment.

Vets are also targets for fraudulent calls saying they qualify for money from “secret” government programs but must first pay a fee or provide personal information.

Everyone should be on the lookout for fake charity and veteran support scams. Always research charities before you give, and never give in to high-pressure tactics to donate.
