(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago is a hotbed for giant music festivals and big-name concerts. Add the excitement of a new baseball season with two beloved teams, and you have a recipe for ticket fraud.

Ticket scams are a fact of life, but you don’t have to fall for one. Here are some tips.

Research ticket companies before you buy, and know their return and exchange policies.

Try to buy directly from the venue, but be careful because imitation sites can show up first in internet searches.

Creating fake tickets has never been easier, and purchasing tickets from strangers on sites like Craigslist is like buying tickets in a dark alley.

Also, try to use credit cards as that might help if there is something amiss.
