CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Round Lake police arrested one of three suspects attempting to steal an ATM from bank early Thursday morning.
Police responded to a report of a pick-up truck attempting to steal an ATM machine from a Chase bank branch in the 1200 block of Illinois Route 134 at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
According to Round Lake Police, the truck fled the scene westbound pulling the ATM with a chain, while a white sedan followed the truck.
When officers arrived they found the ATM in the road a short distance away, near the intersection of Town Center Drive and Fox Trail, and the unoccupied truck nearby.
The white sedan, with three people inside, was then spotted in the immediate area by police, who chased the car until it crashed off the roadway in the 500 block of Fox Trail.
Police said the three occupants ran off into a marsh.
Officers surrounded the area, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office K9, Dax, who has achieved quite a bit of fame, located one the suspects, the driver of the sedan. He was taken into custody.
A witness, Kara Moss, wrote on the Round Lake Facebook page "Dax was awesome - had the suspect screaming in pain and sent to the hospital for dog bites. Watched the whole thing unfold in my yard."
Police said the male driver remains in custody of the Round Lake Police Department pending further investigation. The other two vehicle occupants have not been located at this time..
