
CRETE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Crete-Monee High School in Crete was placed on lockdown Wednesday with a large police presence after an "unfounded" rumor.
Crete-Monee School District 201-U said in a Facebook post that the investigation at the high school is complete and the lockdown has been lifted.
Crete Police Department Police Chief Scott Pieritz said in a Facebook post that they received a call about a student with a gun, but the student admitted to joking about having a gun.
District officials also requested that "parents and guardians allow for a smooth dismissal."
