CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - University of Chicago students have joined the tent camp movement that has spread across campuses in support of Palestinians.
Several dozen tents have been set up on the Quad and hundreds of students are taking part.
Sammy and Gabe are among them.
"This to me feels like a duty and an obligation to the people of Palestine," Sammy said.
"As a Palestinian student here, it's very inspiring," Gabe said. "I look at campus, I see a bunch of people defending my people."
University president Paul Alivisatos said in a statement that the school may allow an encampment to remain for a short time.
At DePaul University, students and supporters have also established a tent camp on the Quad at the Lincoln Park campus.
One hundred and fifty students, consisting of Palestinians and eight student organizations, set up the tents. In a press release, the students said their demands mirror those expressed on other campuses across the nation.
Meanwhile, at Northwestern, an agreement was reached with student protesters that included taking down the tents.
The Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest said Northwestern has declared itself a safe space for antisemitism.
