CALUMET CITY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 49-year-old Calumet City police officer who was twice honored by the department for heroism died this morning as he was transporting a detainee.
Calumet City officials said Adam Zieminski was a police officer for 22 years.
Zieminski was honored for saving the life of a 6-month-old baby in 2014. A year later, he helped save a man who was being attacked by dogs.
Calumet City authorities said Zieminski was transporting someone who'd been arrested when he suffered a medical emergency and was pronounced dead.
The medical examiner's office said it hasn't yet determined the cause of death.
Zieminski is survived by two daughters.
