VOLO, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The death of a man from north suburban Volo is being blamed on complications from dental surgery.

Volo resident Corey Causey needed to have several teeth extracted, so last month he went in for dental surgery at Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons of Lake County in Gurnee.

The 51-year-old Army veteran died at a nearby hospital one day later.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office said Causey was given an excessive amount of anesthesia during surgery.

The official cause of death is listed as “probable complications of Propofol administration during his procedure,” compounded by underlying health conditions.

The Lake County News Sun reported Coroner Jennifer Banek has asked the Illinois State’s Attorney’s Office to investigate the death.

Banek also sent a certified letter to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation asking the agency to temporarily bar the oral surgeon, Dr. Aaron Cwik, from administering anesthesia.
