In March, 2023, the Department of Justice says Jawad H. Hakeem used a handgun to rob a Chase Bank in the River North neighborhood and a Fifth Third Bank in the Loop.
In the second robbery, the DOJ says Hakeem fired shots at a security guard, who was not wounded.
Hakeem was arrested that same month and has been in custody since.
This year, the 51-year-old Hakeem pleaded guilty to federal bank robbery and firearm charges.
The DOJ says last week a judge sentenced Hakeem to 19 years in federal prison.
