(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in Waukegan say they've identified a suspect and recovered four guns, following a shootout that left a 19-year-old man dead.
It happened on the evening of Dec. 22 near South Park Avenue and Water Street when a vehicle was struck by gunfire.
A man inside – Christopher Tapia of Zion – died from a single gunshot wound.
A 27-year-old Waukegan resident admitted to firing at Tapia after he claimed Tapia shot at him moments earlier in a nearby convenience store.
However, the Lake County State's Attorneys Office declined to file charges against the Waukegan man.
Authorities say a vehicle with a mother and two children inside was caught in the crossfire, and while the vehicle was struck multiple times, no one inside was seriously injured. One of her children is an infant.
