Where to order pączki in Chicago for Fat Tuesday 2024

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With Pączki Day only one week away, we’ve rounded up nearly two dozen bakeries, stores and vendors from all over the city where Chicagoans can get their fix.

For those who don’t know, pączki are a Polish delicacy. Basically, they’re filled doughnuts, and they’re especially popular on Fat Tuesday, a.k.a. Mardi Gras, which is the day before the start of Lent, the Christian liturgical season known for fasting. In Chicago, that means on February 13, bakeries will have lines that spill out the door and into the streets for Pączki Day.

Fortunately, many places on this list accept pre-orders, but if you miss the deadline, many of the places highlighted here serve pączki on a first-come, first-served basis. Check out the full list below.

Alliance Bakery is accepting online pączki pre-orders through 10 p.m. on Feb. 10. The store said pickups will be available at their West Town location on Grand Avenue, though they added that pickups from the Division Street location may be available upon request.

All orders must be paid in full, and the bakery said it may take up to 48 hours for them to respond. If you miss the pre-order deadline, pączki and king cakes will be available in-store on a first-come, first-served basis from Feb. 8 – 13.

Individual pączki range in price from $4.50 – $4.95, with flavors including: blueberry lemon; apple cinnamon; raspberry rose; strawberry; chocolate salted caramel; vanilla bean ganache.

Beacon Doughnuts, a vegan doughnut maker that operates out of an alley near the corner of Armitage Avenue and Halsted Street in Lincoln Park, is offering dairy-free pączki on Fat Tuesday.

Although the shop hasn’t announced any pączki pre-order portal yet, Beacon’s normal online orders can be made here, so it’ll be worth checking to see whether it includes pączki on Fat Tuesday.

Logan Square’s Big Kids restaurant will be hosting a pączki party on Fat Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m., at which it will be selling four-packs of pączki. Pre-orders can be made online now.

The four-packs will each contain one of the following: the Kelly (milk chocolate, Hatcho Miso, hazelnut praline and butter dust); the Lorraine (malted sunchoke cremeux, dark chocolate, cacao); the Rosie (guava citrus cardamom, vanilla, puffed rice); and the Alisha (curry comte honeycomb cream).

They’re also selling a truffle pączki, which includes truffle honey cream, shaved winter truffle and gold leaf.

Bittersweet’s pączki six-packs will include two vanilla cream pączki, two chocolate cream pączki and two lemon cream pączki. Orders may now be placed online for pickup starting Feb. 8.

Bridgeport Bakery offers a wide selection of pączki flavors. They have the classics, such as strawberry with powdered sugar, lemon, or blueberry, but they’re also offering chocolate buttercream, a pączki cannoli, a pączki oreo and a pączki peanut butter jelly. Prices range from $2.50 to $3.99.

Order online by 8 p.m. the night before your pickup date. Bridgeport Bakery also offers a walk-in box of a dozen pączki for $29.

In Jefferson Park, Delightful Pastries has been diligently preparing for pączki season. For those who would like to place an order online, know that the bakery requires a minimum total of $36. Online orders must be placed on or before Feb. 7, and expect turnaround times of 48 hours.

Missed the order deadline? No worries, Delightful Pastries sells pączki in its store all year long.

Pro-tip: Co-owner Dobra Bielinski told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that her favorite pączki flavor is their passionfruit.

Pre-orders placed online will be ready for pickup from Feb. 8 – 13. Its flavors include raspberry, blackberry lemon sugar and salted caramel custard. Do-Rite has said pickup orders may be placed at any of its locations.

As for cost, Do-Rite will be selling an assorted half-dozen for $18.95, a half-dozen choose-your-own for $18.95, an assorted dozen for $32.95, or a choose-your-own dozen for $32.95.

The prices do not include taxes or fees.

The offerings at Firecakes include blood orange, drunken plum, malted chocolate and lemon pączki, which may be purchased individually for $3.60, as a half-dozen $19.95, or as a dozen $33.95

Online orders may be placed now for pickup between Feb. 9 –13 at its River North, Lincoln Park and Oak Park locations.

Heritage Restaurant and Caviar Bar is accepting pre-orders through 9 p.m. on Feb. 12, but be prepared to spend big. A dozen pączki, regardless of the flavor, costs $55 at Heritage. A half-dozen cost $30. Individual pączki are $5.

Ideal Bakery sells pączki all year long, but for pickups on Fat Tuesday, it’s recommended that customers call ahead or place pickup orders online. It’s worth noting that the selection online is limited to the more basic flavors, including: strawberry, apricot, cherry, raspberry or bavarian cream.

Some of the offerings available if you call in include raspberry mousse and cherry pie with whipped cream.

Pączki have returned to Jewel-Osco locations in the Chicago area. The grocer sells assorted four-packs for $5.49, which makes them the best bargain on this list.

J.P. Graziano’s giardiniera pączki will be ready for pickup from the West Loop sandwich shop on Fat Tuesday only. Pre-orders can be made now online.

Their offerings: a vanilla custard pączki or a chocolate cream pączki, each of which are spiked with J.P. Graziano giardiniera seasoning. Individual pączki are $5.

Pre-orders are underway at Kolatek’s Bakery and Deli. You can place them over the phone, in person, or through a Facebook message.

Flavors include: raspberry, plum butter, blueberry, rose, custard, and apricot. But Kolatek’s is also offering “premium flavors” or nutella, tiramisu, limoncello, rum caramel bacon, or fresh strawberry and whipped cream.

Orders will be available for pickup starting Feb. 8 –13.

Marz Community Brewing Company’s annual Pączki Fest will return on Feb. 10, starting at noon. As has been the case in years past, the craft brewery will release its pączki stout — a double milk stout with lactose and cocoa nibs — which Marz bills as a “liquid version of this gluttonous moment.”

This year, though, Marz also brewed a raspberry cream puff pączki stout.

A four-pack of pączki can be ordered online for $20. Each four-pack will include one pączki of each flavor: raspberry, rose petal marmalade, bavarian cream custard and plum butter.

Oak Mill Bakery, which has four suburban locations in addition to its location in Chicago at 5747 S. Harlem Ave., is accepting pre-orders online for pączki by the dozen and half-dozen.

The bakery requires 24-hours notice for all online pączki orders.

A six-pack from Oak Mill costs $23.70, and a dozen will cost $47.40.

Pticek & Son Bakery is accepting pączki pre-orders through Feb. 7, but the bakery told WBBM it will sell pączki to walk-in customers on a first-come, first-served basis from Feb. 8 – 13.

Pticek’s pączki flavors include cheese, apricot, prune, poppy, almond, cherry, raspberry, peach, pineapple, apple, blueberry, strawberry, custard, buttercream, and lemon. Whipped cream and fruit are available as add-ons.

Racine Bakery is selling pączki every day until they sell out to walk-in customers. Those who would like pączki specifically on Fat Tuesday, though, must call the bakery and make their pre-orders by Feb. 10. The deadline to place a pre-order for Fat Thursday was Feb. 5.

The bakery’s offerings include: raspberry, blueberry, apricot, prune, strawberry jelly, rosehip, cheese, poppy seed, cherry, custard with chocolate, custard, or fresh strawberry.

Roeser’s Bakery encouraged its customers to pre-order and pre-pay for pączki if they plan to pick it up on Fat Tuesday. Pre-orders are taken over the phone at 773-489-6900.

Tip: Those who pre-pay will get to avoid long lines and pick up their order at the back of the building.

The bakery said it will have a variety of pączki available in-store for walk-in customers starting on Fat Thursday. Those orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Smack Dab has called Rogers Park home since 2017, and this year, the restaurant will have pączki available for pickup on Feb. 12 –13. Preorders are available now on Tock.

Pączki pre-orders are open now and will remain open through Fat Tuesday at Stan’s Donuts. Orders may be placed online for any Stan’s location.

Stan’s has six different pączki flavors available: pastry cream, cannoli cream, chocolate cream, strawberry, raspberry, as well as a vegan strawberries and cream. Individual pączki will be sold for $3.55; three-packs are available for $9.95 each; a half-dozen is available for $20.05; and a dozen is available for $38.05.

The Southwest Side’s Weber’s Bakery will be accepting pączki pre-orders until they hit capacity, the bakery announced on social media. Orders may be placed online, and all online pickup orders require 24-hour notice.

Individual pączki cost $1.65, and an assorted 12-pack will run $19.80. Weber’s has a large variety of offerings, including apple cinnamon, blueberry, chocolate custard, fresh strawberry with whipped cream, lemon, raspberry peanut butter, and more.

Pączki will be available at West Town Bakery for Fat Tuesday only. While the bakery will be selling pączki on a first-come, first-served basis to walk-in customers, they recommended making a pre-order to buy large quantities.

Pre-orders at West Town can be made online. West Town is offering raspberry, blueberry lemon, and strawberry nutella flavors — each of which will cost $4.95 per pączki.
