FDA approves 15-minute coronavirus test

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The FDA has approved a coronavirus test that can give results in less than 15 minutes.

The test was authorized by the FDA for emergency use and could allow doctors across the country to quickly test patients, CNN reported.

However, the test’s widespread use could be dampened because there’s a shortage of swabs and other equipment used to get specimens from patients.

Abbott Laboratories, which developed the test, hopes to start doing 50,000 tests a day starting next week.

Two other rapid tests were approved by the FDA in recent days.

It takes hours or days to get results with mosts coronavirus tests.
