
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man stole a phone from a 12-year-old girl as she walked to school in the East Village on Monday, police said.
The NYPD released surveillance images Tuesday of the suspect they’re searching for.
The girl was talking on her phone just steps from Girls Prep Lower East Side Middle School at E. 11th Street and Avenue A around 7:45 a.m.
when the man snatched the device out of her hand, police said.
The man took off down First Avenue with the phone, which he soon tried to sell to a random 38-year-old man, who figured out it was stolen and called police.
The girl was not physically injured, according to police, who said her phone has since been recovered.
A surveillance camera captured images of the suspect at 259 East 10th St.
