Get Marty: She looks pretty good for a 'Dead' woman

Meet the woman the government says is dead and how we're helping bring her back to life

If you ever get the chance to meet Mary Karlovich, it's pretty clear she's alive and kicking. If only the IRS would get the message.

For some reason, the IRS declared her deceased and that's causing all kinds of problems. In the video on this page, you'll see my conversation with this "dead" woman. You kind of have to laugh at first, until you hear the mess it's caused.  Mary says the trouble started after her late husband passed away.  A short time later, the IRS killed her off on paper.

Without being brought back to life she not only can't get back more than $9,000 she's owed from 2019 taxes, she also can't file her 2020 taxes. She's also been left out of the stimulus payments.

After getting nowhere with the government directly, Mary decided she had to Get Marty.  Unfortunately, this is a problem we've seen before. That's why I reached out to Congressman Conor Lamb's office.  Mary isn't officially back from the dead just yet, but they're working with another agency inside the IRS, the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Mary's resurrection should be complete in just a couple of weeks.
