BEVERLY HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A gun shop in Beverly Hills said it’s seeing an increase in sales.

Russell Stuart of Beverly Hills Guns said the rising crime, especially robberies, in the area have driven customers to his store.

"We've seen an uptick in watch robberies, car thefts, follow-home invasions because of the climate of crime in Beverly Hills and throughout the Greater Los Angeles area," Stuart told KABC. “People have been driven to focus more on their own personal safety.”

Both Beverly Hills and the greater area of Los Angeles have seen a rise in crimes, especially robberies. In late November, several stores including Nordstrom were hit with flash mob robberies. There were also a rise in follow-home robberies, including in Valley Village and West Hollywood.

On Nov. 23, a man was shot and killed outside Bossa Nova when he went to help a female friend who was about to be robbed by a group of people.

On Dec. 1, philanthropist Jacqueline Avant was shot and killed in her Beverly Hills home.

Stuart told the news station he encourages new gun owners to practice at the shooting range, as well as learn how to properly handle it and store it away safely.
