The DeSoto Fire Marshall has traced the source of a major grass fire that happened on the weekend before July 4th. The fire burned 192 acres. One firefighter was taken to a hospital to be treated for heat-related issues.
DeSoto called in firefighters from Dallas, Duncanville, Lancaster, Cedar Hill and Ovilla to help bring the flames under control.
Instigators say two kids had been shooting off fireworks behind a home on Keswick Drive. One of the boys called 9-1-1 to report the fire and admitted to his role in causing the blaze. That child's parents have been issued tickets for illegal firework use and for possession of fireworks. Both of those carry maximum fines of up to $2,000.
Officials with the City of DeSoto say they could also file claims to recover the costs associated with the fire.
