
SUMMERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) – Police are still investigating after a 15-year-old Detroit boy drowned at a Monroe County campground late Saturday afternoon.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to the KOA Campground on Tunnicliffe Road in Summerfield Township around 5:20 p.m. Saturday after receiving a call that the teenager had been missing for about 20 minutes.
The teen had last been seen in the swimming pond at the campground, officials said.
Authorities, including members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and the Summerfield Twp. Fire Department, arrived at the campground and began searching the pond.
Within minutes of arriving, a deputy diver found the teen, identified as 15-year-old Jaylen Christopher Hill of Detroit.
The boy was taken to Toledo Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the incident and asking anyone who may know something about the drowning to call Deputy Yuchuck at 734-240-7534.
