(WWJ) – Metro Detroit is again home to the majority of Michigan’s most dangerous intersections.

This week the Michigan Auto Law firm released its annual list of the state’s most dangerous intersections, with 17 of them being in Southeast Michigan.

The most dangerous intersection in 2022 – as it was back in 2011 – was 11 Mile Road/I 696 @ Van Dyke Avenue, near the Warren/Centerline border. According to Michigan State Police crash data, there were 207 total crashes with 41 injuries at that intersection last year.

WWJ’s Charlie Langton spoke to several Metro Detroiters about that intersection, which was described as the “Wild West.” One Roseville man said “they drive like lunatics.”

Another Roseville man said sometimes it even escalates past just a crash.

“They just cut them off, then they start swearing and cussing and putting their finger out the window,” said Bill Castle. “Now they even get worse. Now they get madder, next thing you know they have a confrontation and next thing you know they’re pulling out a gun and then they start shooting.”

The intersection at Schoolcraft Road at Telegraph Road in Redford Township and the roundabout at  Martin Parkway and N. Pontiac Trail in Commerce Township were tied for the second most crashes at 126.

The Redford intersection had 30 reported injuries, while the one in Commerce Township only had 13.

Only one Detroit intersection cracked the list, with 7 Mile Road at I-75 coming in at No. 20. There were 71 total crashes and 22 injuries reported at that intersection last year.
