(WWJ) – A semi-truck crash and fire left part of I-75 in Oakland County closed for several hours Thursday evening.

The northbound lanes of I-75 were closed at 11 Mile Road, just north of I-696, around 6:15 p.m. and remained closed for more than three hours.

Michigan State Police officials say when troopers responded to the scene of the crash they found out the truck contained hot asphalt and it caught fire.

The Royal Oak Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire, which caused damage to the wall along the freeway.

MSP Motor Carriers responded to the scene and were waiting for an empty truck to transfer the load, as of 9 p.m. and officials said it was expected to be closed for several more hours.

No one was injured in the crash and no other vehicles were involved, according to MSP. It was not clear what caused the truck to crash.

WWJ traffic reporter O’Neill Stevens says drivers can take Woodward Avenue or M-53 as a way to get around the closure, which had the freeway backed up to about 9 Mile.

Video posted to social media shows thick black smoke pouring from the truck.
