A Cam Jordan youth football camp is guaranteed to have jokes and a vast array of dance breaks, but this year’s also included a Tank.
More specifically that’d be Caleb Tank Jordan, the son of the New Orleans Saints star defensive end. Tank was promised he’d go to his first camp once he was 5 years old. The coronavirus pandemic wiped out any hopes of that happening, Cam explained with his arms wrapped around his son. So this year was Tank’s youth camp debut, held at an indoor complex in Harahan due to inclement weather.
"It re-inspires you to be that much better of a person," Jordan said after the first of two sessions with about 300 attendees split between them. The groups ran drills before being treated to Subway sandwiches.
“Just this right here gives them some sort of actualization of a dream that is possible," Jordan said. "And when you come down to it, that’s all we’re trying to do. Just trying to propel our future in a positive manner."
The event was also held to benefit the 18th Ward nonprofit, which was presented with a check for $2,500 to fund equipment purchases for its programs.
"When you think about the community and what I’ve tried to do here in the last, I don’t know, decade, has been nothing short of God’s work," Jordan said. "I mean, the way that I’ve been blessed I try to go out and bless other people. And especially our community surrounding us. So that’s in greater New Orleans and beyond. It doesn’t really matter to me.”
