The inmate whom Orleans Parish jailers mistakenly released last month is back in custody after he was reportedly caught near Houston, but not before he tried to elude justice one more time.

Federal marshals and Harris County officials found Khalil Bryan at a home in Cypress early Wednesday morning. He is being held in the Harris County Jail. No word on when he will be transported back to New Orleans.

Harris County fifth precinct Constable Terry Allbritton's deputies made the arrest at a home on Keystone Green Drive, about 27 miles northwest of downtown Houston.

"Constable Terry Allbritton's Strategic Response Unit, assisting our partners with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, arrested out-of-state fugitive Khalil Bryan this morning," a spokesperson from Allbritton's office wrote in a statement on Facebook. "Bryan had multiple outstanding felony arrest warrants out of Louisiana for home invasion, aggravated assault, child endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm."

According to officials in Allbritton's office, Bryan tried to run away when authorities arrived at the house.

"The 30-year-old fugitive attempted unsuccessfully to flee out of a window in the residence where he was located," the spokesperson wrote. "Bryan was treated for minor injuries and booked into the Harris County Jail. Two other people at the location were arrested on unrelated warrants."

According to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans CEO Darlene Cusanza, a tip to the agency led to Bryan's arrest.

"A tip received by Crimestoppers GNO provided the location of where Mr. Khalil Bryan who was mistakenly released from Orleans Parish jail was residing in Texas," Cusanza said in a statement.

Deputies released Bryan on July 25 after another inmate with a similar name posted bond. Sheriff's office officials didn't catch the mistake until 10 hours later, and the inmate who should have been released remained in the Orleans Parish Jail for an additional 11 hours. That error cost two deputies their jobs and led to five others being suspended.
