A murder in Gentilly this week may have been street justice for the killing of an Edna Karr High School student last year.

Nola.com reports the father of a slain Edna Karr High School student has been arrested in connection with a Wednesday drive-by murder of a suspect in his son’s death.

The father, Bokio Johnson, 46, is alleged to have committed the Gentilly drive-by on the 21-year-old suspect, Hollis Carter, who was on his way to a court hearing Wednesday regarding his alleged murder of Johnson’s son Caleb Johnson, and Johnson’s stepsister in Algiers in March of 2021.

The shooting happened at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Providence Place according to police.

Carter's mother was also wounded in the Wednesday attack and was listed in critical condition. She was found outside the vehicle where Carter was found dead inside.

"At about 9:00 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a shooting and upon their arrival, officers located the woman lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her body and the man was located inside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his head. The woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition," said an NOPD report.

The defense attorney John Fuller who is representing Hollis Carter told nola.com his client’s death was related to “street justice”. Police charged Johnson with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
