A potential broad area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico has got the attention of the National Hurricane Center. Forecasters expect the low to develop next week.
"Some slow development of this system is possible thereafter as it moves westward and approaches the western Gulf of Mexico coastline by the middle of next week," said hurricane specialist Dr. Lisa Bucci.
Chances for development over the next week are a low 20 percent.
Meanwhile, a pair of tropical waves moving west through the Atlantic have moderate chances of development, but are much farther away from the U.S. mainland.
